Allow me to introduce myself

I’ve been away–travelling and experiencing new things, ending up in sticky situations and meeting wonderful people. I wish I had a legitimate excuse as to why I didn’t post while I was away. I could use the excuse of ‘There was no wifi there’- which there wasn’t, – but then there are so many other ways of getting Internet connection. So I’ll cut the crap. I didn’t post in July because I simply didn’t feel like it. I’m not sure why, but I felt like I needed a ‘break.’ I know, that’s weird, but I enjoyed it. This post might be a bit long, sorry. Actually no. I’m not sorry. I don’t need to be sorry. This post will be long, enjoy. (If you want to, I mean I’m not forcing you or anything.)

I’m back home and hoping I’ll be able to post more often. I decided that I want to finally introduce myself to you. I’ve never had an easy time introducing myself. Maybe it’s because my name comes off difficult and sometimes even I’m not sure whether I’m pronouncing it right (an unfortunate effect of the gradual loss of my “Africanness” through westernization maybe?) The name is the simpler part, though. Let’s talk about what happens when someone asks you to tell them a bit about yourself. I had to do a lot of this while I had travelled, being in a different country and living with totally different people.

So you need to tell someone a bit about yourself. What can you say without saying too much? What can you say that is enough? Generally what people do is stick to their hobbies and their interests, which is fine, and I do the same thing. But hobbies are just hobbies and I feel like they don’t describe a person, they don’t tell of the things you believe in and that define your life. Although I suppose you don’t want to get too personal with someone during your first encounter… I don’t know, but I don’t enjoy telling people what my hobbies are. Maybe that’s because they are the most ordinary of hobbies – reading novels, surfing the Internet (this is a real hobby, Mum!), and similar things that don’t involve too much activity.

So in the spirit of introductions, I will accept the Liebster Award because it’s a more interesting way to get to know a person. Basically I have to answer questions posed by another blogger who nominated me. I was nominated by Michelle Malonza of https://bloomingbutterfly.me. Here we go.

  1. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

By far my least favourite question, because what crazy things can a ‘recluse’ do? (Slight exaggeration with that comparison there, it’s just that I really like staying at home) To answer the question though, I took a bus from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam all by myself! 16 and a half hours all by myself! It was exhausting, I wouldn’t recommend it.

  1. What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

I’ll give two that meant the most to me: that I lift spirits, and that I’m real.

  1. Given the choice of anyone in the world, who would you want as a dinner guest?

Oh my, tough one. I’d love dinner with Dan Brown, Charlie from The perks of being a Wallflower, Erin Hanson, and of course KingBach because he’s funny af. Or Trevor Noah. Clearly I can’t make up my mind.

  1. If I had to listen to a song to get to know you better, what would it be?

That would be Runaway by AURORA

  1. What is happiness to you?

Happiness is peace. Absence of qualms and satisfaction with myself and my relationships.

  1. If you could travel the world with someone, who/what would it be?

I really don’t know. A bunch of novels, a notebook and a Polaroid camera for those wanderlusty photos maybe.

  1. What is your biggest fear?

My biggest fear is not doing what I was meant to do with my life; not fulfilling whatever role has been set for me in the world. Basically, being disappointed by how I have lived.

  1. What do you think your purpose is in life?

I haven’t figured this one out yet, but I have an idea: to learn and share.

  1. Tell us about the time you were most happy

Several months ago, I couldn’t help but be proud of my personal growth, and how I had overcome a situation.

  1. What is the one lesson you would teach your daughter?

You are enough. You are enough now, for this moment and you will be enough later for that moment, and you will never cease to be enough just as you are.

  1. What is your ideal life?

In an ideal life, I am completely self-aware and I am confident in my skills and talents. I am unafraid of the unknown. I am able to be myself unashamedly, and unapologetically.

And now, for my nominations:

  1. Iman of https://imankissa.wordpress.com
  2. Laurence of https://fictionsensations.wordpress.com
  3. Jean of https://makaka94.wordpress.com

The idea is for you to answer the same questions, and then tag any other bloggers you have in mind and let’s all become a big blogging family. cheesy smile

Never stop doing the thing that sets your heart on fire.

  1. i would have loved the end of that Dar trip…took me back to one I made myself, it was the best experience I’ve had yet, too bad I didn’t give it life like you have done yours, I think I will now, I still hold the memories so fresh in my heart
